A Little About a Big Guy
What can be said about Maddox?  He is unlike any other child I have ever met.  I used to assume this was greatly due to him being born prematurely, but the older I get, the more I realize it is probably just his personality.  To call him quirky would be a great understatement.  Maddox loves to play outside in the dirt but hates to have dirty hands.  He loves to have all of your attention and none of it at the same time.

He loves his sisters.  Maddox would follow Madison to the ends of the world and back.  He follows her around the house from the moment she walks through the door after school until she goes to bed at night.  No matter what she is doing...he wants to be involved.

He didn't really start talking until he turned 2...and then it was a very s-l-o-w start.  That is very common of preemies, but still difficult.  Usually by 2 years old your child has good communication skills...but Maddox did not...often making frustrating moments.  He would want something but not know how to tell us, so it would often turn into tantrums, screaming, and crying.  Then one day after his second birthday he went to the fridge, pointing and grunting.  I followed him over there and asked him what he wanted.  I wasn't actually expecting and answer...so he stunned me when he pointed to the deli drawer and said "Chee!"  He wanted cheese!  There wouldn't be a struggle of trying to figure out just what he wanted.  I already knew...because he told me.

Vocabulary came slowly after that...a new word here and there, but not too often.  And then recently it is as though his vocabulary just exploded.  At that point I realized his lack of words seemed to be more because he was shy than anything else.  I will say "can you say -insert word here-," and he would softly whisper it back to me.  This is actually a relatively new thing that has been going on for a few short weeks.  But as I sit here today I am able to communicate with him and I'm loving it.  Of course, a Raar Raar is a "Raar Raar" and a car is a "go", no matter how many times I tell him the correct words...and that's ok.
